KRCU's first Concert in a Cave featured Cathy Barton and Dave Para as the musical act, and the pair is returning for this year's concert.

"I wanted Cathy and Dave back," KRCU general manager Dan Woods said. "They have been the most popular, so far, that we've had. They're just real good friends of the station. We wanted to get them back for the fifth last year, but the scheduling just didn't work."

KRCU, southeast Missouri's National Public Radio station, will host its sixth annual Concert in a Cave at Cave Vineyard in Ste. Genevieve.

KRCU's Concert in a Cave started in 2008 when Amanda Lincoln, the development director of KRCU at the time, brought the idea to Woods' attention. The acoustics inside the cave are nearly perfect for stringed instruments and require very little amplification.

"The strings just do great in there," Woods said. "When Cathy Barton and Dave Para were there for the first one they said it was the most unique venue they had ever performed in."

There also will be a social hour before the concert with a wine tasting from Cave Vineyard before the show, and all who attend will receive a KRCU wine glass. This years refreshments for the social hour will be provided by Bistro Saffron.

After the social hour, a shuttle will transport guests to the cave. Woods said that the concert generally lasts around 90 minutes.

Woods placed emphasis on this year's concert being on Labor Day Weekend.

"This time we're actually built into Labor Day weekend," Woods said. "This is sort of a nice way to close out summer."

Woods said many people make it a yearly tradition to attend the Concert in a Cave and take a day out of their schedules to enjoy a little time with their friends and family.

"I believe they usually sell out," Laura Oliver of Cave Vineyard said. "I want to say that they sell about 80 tickets."

The social hour for Concert in a Cave will begin at 6 p.m. and the concert will start at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 30. Tickets are $40 and all of the proceeds go to KRCU.
