At Southeast, we all pass by new faces every day. Each student, faculty and staff member possesses artifacts that make them who they are, whether they be trinkets or relics. This weekly feature explores a gallery of those personal artifacts and the stories behind them. This is the Arrow’s “Museum of Me.”

Glueck’s grandmother's rosary that was passed down to her when she was younger. Katelyn was around 11 years old when she was given this rosary, which was owned by her grandmother Mary “Jane” Pfefferkorn before she passed away in 2011. Katelyn keeps this item safe, as it is a treasured memory of her grandmother. “She was a very important person in my life. She helped me discover my love for cooking and weird hobbies like sewing, knitting and crocheting. I owe a lot to her when it comes to my hobbies and faith.” Pictured here is her late grandmother Mary “Jane” Pfefferkorn and her late grandfather Paul DeWayne "Flip" Pfefferkorn. Maxine is Glueck’s 10 year old cat. She is a feisty ball of fur that loves her person deeply. Katleyn adopted her cat Maxine 10 years ago. She got her from her uncle’s farm where all the kittens were born in a barn. She said even though other people say Maxine is mean, she is really a great cat. “I knew I always wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up, and I think having Maxine as a young child really helped that dream grow,” Glueck said. Glueck shared a funny short story behind Maxine’s name. “We picked her out, and at first we thought she was a boy, and we named her Max. We shortly found out that she was in fact a she and changed her name to Maxine.” A fun fact about Maxine is that Katelyn taught her to fist bump for a treat. (By Alyssa Lunsford ~ Photographer)

Out of all the single books Glueck has read, the classic novel The Secret Garden is her favorite to reread. Glueck is an avid reader and loves adventures from Stephen King’s “Pet Sematary” to Harry Potter and everything in between. Her favorite book is “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett. She first read the unabridged version when she was in second grade. “I read this book with my second grade teacher, Ms. Grim; she read the book to us, then we watched the movie,” Glueck said. When Glueck got older, she reread the book, but this time, she was able to read the original print version. “The storyline behind it is one of my favorites,” she said. “The protagonist is left an orphan and goes to live with her uncle, and she really finds herself here. She makes friends with the local people in the town and finds this dead garden. She ends up bringing life back to the garden and into herself.” Glueck’s favorite quote from the book inspires her during difficult times. It states, “Hang in there; it's astonishing how short of a time it can take for very wonderful things to happen.” Glueck said these words remind her bad times don't last forever; they can change very quickly into something good.
