The Southeast Missouri State men's basketball team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Wednesday night.

The Southeast Missouri State men's basketball team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Wednesday night.

The fifth-seeded Redhawks defeated the eight-seed Eastern Kentucky Colonels 75-65 behind a good shooting night. Southeast shot 49.1 percent from the field.

Forwards Tyler Stone and Leon Powell each recorded a double-double. Stone scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and shot 9-of-14 from the field, while Powell scored 12 points, hauled in 14 rebounds and shot 5-of-10 from the field.

Guard Marland Smith led Southeast in scoring with 20 points and shot 5-of-10 from the field. He also shot a game-high 13 free throws and made nine of them.

Southeast out-rebounded Eastern Kentucky 44-33 and outscored the Colonels in the paint 40-28.

Eastern Kentucky guard Jaron Jones led all scorers with 28 points.

Southeast will face fourth-seeded Tennessee Tech in the quarterfinal round at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. The winner will face top-seeded Murray State at 6 p.m. Friday.
