The Southeast Missouri State University men's basketball team walked into Allen Fieldhouse being the underdog and held there own against No. 7 Kansas for 25 minutes.

"Tonight was a special game for us," Southeast coach Dickey Nutt said. "I thought we played hard and was proud of our team."

Southeast guard Nick Niemczyk nailed two 3-point baskets and finished with 14 points for the night.

The Redhawks had the game within six points with 12 minutes, and 10 seconds left in the second half, but the Jayhawks flexed their muscle and their lead bloomed to 15 points with 6 minutes, and 20 seconds in the game. In a valient effort, the Redhawks lost to the Jayhawks 74-55.

The Redhawks will play Lyon College in its regular season home opener at 7 p.m. Monday at the Show Me Center.
