Southeast families had the chance to mingle and make personalized door hangers during family weekend on Sept. 21 by The Crafty Lab.

The Crafty Lab is a home decor, mobile paint party business that opened in 2017, owned by Southeast Alumna, Yvonne Brown.

Brown has manifested her passion for art in this crafty business to bring more people together and provide a way for people to give affordable, personalized gifts.

“I wanted to provide a way for people to do a customized item that wasn’t so expensive,” Brown said. “I will pretty much cut out anything that you want for a very reasonable price.”

Before the event was held, attendees had the chance to pick out any design door hanger of their choice.

Some customizations of door hangers crafters made consisted of cutouts of a cross, flip flops and flowers.

Crafters finished their paintings, and Brown added finishing touches to the artwork that included bows, stencils and anything else they chose.

“The other finishing touch is that I go through each one of the crafters’ paintings, and I personally outline it, highlight it and finish it off,” Brown said. “I mostly do it while they are waiting and that’s why it’s so good for different parties because they can mingle and hang out with each other.”

Jennifer Keene, an attendee from Jackson, painted a manger scene on a cross cut-out at the event.

After two years of being in business, Brown has regular attendees to create these personalized door hangers.

“My friend Anita and I have been attending [paint parties] close to six or eight months now,” Keene said.

There are open parties planned every month with an opportunity to book private events with just friends and family.
