With the increasing concern over the novel coronavirus outbreak across the world and five confirmed cases in the United States, a letter to campus was sent by mass email Wednesday from Southeast President Carlos Vargas.

Vargas said while no cases have been identified in Missouri, the university will continue to monitor the situation.

The letter recommends while students aren’t in direct contact with the novel coronavirus, students should still take action against spreading respiratory viruses altogether.

Such preventative actions include washing one’s hands, avoiding touching one’s eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoiding contact with those who are sick, staying home when sick, covering coughs or sneezes and seeking medical attention if needed.
