SEMO Tennis lost its last match before the OVC tournament, losing 4-3 to Murray State.

Daniela Hlacikova still feels good heading into the tournament.

“We have almost two weeks till the tournament, so we have a lot of time to practice. We’re going to get better, and hopefully, it’s going to be a good outcome,” Hlacikova said.

The Redhawks lost two of the three in the doubles competition. Romana Tarajova and Ksenia Shikanova lost 7-5 in the first matchup. In the second matchup Hlacikova and Teona Velkoska lost 6-2.

“Me and my partner lost our doubles and we’ve been on a good roll so that kind of sucks,” said Hlacikova.

Hlacikova said it is possible the loss in doubles carried over into singles.

“We lost the doubles point and then it’s hard to get back. We won two other matches. I think we held good as a team, but just didn’t work out today,” Hlacikova said.

In singles competition SEMO did fare better taking three of six of matches. Daniela Hlacikova and Myroslava Zelenchuk won in three sets, while Vivian Lee won her match in two sets. Romana Tarajova and Annika Pschorr both lost in three sets, and Teona Velkoska lost in two sets.

The match also marked the last home match for the Redhawks seniors. Freshman Myroslava Zelenchuk is trying to make her last moments with the seniors a good one.

“They are awesome,” Zelenchuk said “I’m just trying to enjoy the last moments we’ll have together.”

Coach Mary Beth Gunn said SEMO will look to put the losing effort behind them as they prepare for the OVC tournament, where they look to bring home the Championship.

“Well we didn’t get the results we wanted today, but what we’re really focusing on now is getting prepared for the conference tournament. That's what’s important to us, and that’s where our focus is now,” Coach Gunn said.

The OVC tournament starts Friday Apr. 29. SEMO’s matchup is currently undetermined.
