The Southeast Missouri State University volleyball team played its first home game this season and extended its win streak to five games. Southeast is now 11-6 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Southeast defeated UT Martin 3-1. The Redhawks had a lead in the opening set and lost 25-19.

"Yes, it was a slow start, but once we get playing like we know how to play, playing solid volleyball, we can really dominate teams," junior setter Julie Shives said. "So, hopefully we can get out of starting slow and kill them from the start."

Southeast dominated the next three sets and won 25-19, 25-12 and 25-13.

Junior middle blocker Emily Coon said being at home for the first time this year and the nerves of the first set are the reasons that they lost it.

The Redhawks have been on the road for its first 16 games of the season.

"I think with just a few changes, the few tiny little errors we had, we could have fixed it," Coon said. "But, after the second set, we came together as a team and we really talked about what we wanted to do today and we figured out that this is going to be our game for sure."

Southeast coach Julie Folliard said the players came out a little slow since it was their first home game this season, but they managed to get in rhythm and came out more aggressive the rest of the match.

Junior outside hitter Colleen Yarber had a match-high 17 kills. Defensively, the Redhawks were led by Junior libero Berkley Idel who had 19 digs. The team had a season-high 16 blocks in the match.

"Yeah, 3 and 0. We'll be happy with that start and we're back on the road again this weekend," Folliard said. "But I think we'll continue, if we continue the way we are playing that record will continue to improve."

Southeast's next game is at 7 p.m. Saturday against Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Ala.
