The Student Government Association (SGA) met to approve a funding request from Campus Movement and a change to a previous request.

A funding request from Campus Movement, a faith based student organization, was presented at the Oct. 31 SGA meeting. The request asked for $2,302 to pay for half of 19 students’ registration costs for the New Year’s Conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Campus Movement member Brock Wood said the conference is a great opportunity for students to learn more about their faith.

“Students go there and they get to investigate their faith, investigate what the Bible says about God and about each other and themselves,” Wood said.

Wood said the organization is expecting around 200 students to attend the conference. The funding request for the Dec. 27 conference was passed by the senators in a roll call.

Also at the meeting, an update to a previous $800 funding request for a Percussion Club conference trip was passed.. The requested funding will go to hotel room expenses instead of registration.

SGA Treasurer Heather Hoffman said the amount covered by SGA would not change with the new resolution and the organization had found a different way to pay their registration.

“With their [Percussion Club of SEMO] registration, they were given the option to volunteer instead of pay their registration,” Hoffman said.

The first resolutions of honor were given out to the cast of the recent River Campus play ‘Much Ado About Nothing.’ The resolution of honor is meant to recognize the “amazing work” of SEMO students on campus. The students received a plaque commemorating their efforts on the show.

Senator Makenna Wessell nominated the cast for the “blood, sweat and tears” put into the show.

“Thank you for all your hard work and passion for your craft for putting on such fantastic production for all of us to enjoy and for bringing just a little bit more culture to Southeast Missouri,” Wessell said.

For more info about SGA can be found on the SEMO webpage.
