Although the outcome didn’t come out in Southeast’s gymnastics team’s favor, the team’s first home meet last Friday allowed the team to showcase its talent. Southeast was narrowly defeated by Lindenwood university 191.025 to 190.625.

Junior Alexis Brawner earned a triple threat of firsts, winning vault (9.825), bars (9.825) and all-around (38.475).

On the opening event of vault, Brawner led the team with a score of 9.82. Senior Ashley Thomas finished right behind Brawner with a 9.625.

After the vault, Southeast moved on to bars. Brawner also led the team on this event with a 9.825. Thomas came in second as well, posting a score of 9.625.

For beam, Southeast scored a total of 47.650 as sophomore McKinzie Jones set the tone with a score of 9.750. Junior McKenna Stanley followed Jones with a score of 9.725.

For the final event, Southeast performed on floor with Thomas leading the way with a 9.825. Three other Southeast gymnasts posted scored of 9.775 or above in the event.

The team competes again at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Kent State in Dekalb, Ill.
