Imagine you’re just working a job to get by, and it seems pretty straightforward, or as well as you think a security job would be, but there’s a deadly twist lurking in the shadows. You know those animatronics from a pizza place that looked cute when you were a child, but as you get older, they look like something out of a nightmare? These aren’t those animatronics, but are instead twice as creepy because they are from one of the scariest game franchises ever: Five Nights At Freddy’s.
Warning: Spoilers may jump at you!
Five Nights At Freddy's is a first-person horror game that took the gaming world by storm in 2014, but now, the franchise has its own movie. Uh-Oh, a live-action video game movie, this is gonna be interesting, right? The movie's premise takes from the game as we follow the protagonist, Mike, getting a job as a security guard at Freddy’s pizzeria in order to make money to care for his sister. The job seems easy as it is abandoned by people, but not from six-foot-tall mechanical mascots called animatronics. They lurk in the shadows while Mike battles demons from his past. Accompanied by a police officer named Vanessa, Mike has to worry about keeping custody of his sister while uncovering the mysteries within Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
I am exposing myself, but I am limited on knowledge of the FNAF lore. Still, this movie was a good watch because it catered to the franchise’s fans. It's not some colossal Emmy, Oscar-winning movie, so if you expect that, you are just setting yourself up for disappointment. It is simply a movie about the game and features our favorite animatronics killing people, which is what some of the fans want to see. It is not an extremely gorey movie with lots of blood since it appeals to a younger audience, but it keeps the game's essence. I would’ve wanted more kills, but with this movie's rating, PG-13, I would say I expected too much. If you are looking for a movie with the animatronics we know and love to kill people with heartwarming and heartbreaking moments, give it a watch.
