SEMO IT Department sent out a statement notifying SEMO students of suspicious texts asking them to "shut down" their school email account.

In the report, the IT Department stated they often alert students via SMS messages, but they will not ask students to shut down their accounts. There are ways to avoid being scammed by fraudulent texts.

Do not reply to a suspicious text, this opens up the door to other scammers. Unless the text is from a known sender, do not press a link from a text. If there is a company stated in the text, call that company before responding.
