Student Alumni Networking Night will allow students to make professional connections with several members of Southeast Missouri State University’s alumni.

The event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 25 at Kem Statuary Hall in the Wehking Alumni Center. Students interested in attending must register online. The form is available in Student Alumni Networking Night’s listing on the student portal or the event page on Facebook.

Senior Megan Chisum helped organize the event and believes it can help students reach their professional goals.

“We come here to get a career,” Chisum said. “It’s very important to get to know your career interests and talk to people who actually walked the halls of Southeast, but also are now in the professional realm.”

The alumni who are attending have diverse professional backgrounds including cybersecurity, nursing and law.

“We have a mix of backgrounds and fields so hopefully students can relate,” Chisum said.

Sophomore Meghan Becker will be attending the event and hopes to find someone to start a professional connection.

“I think it’s important to make that connection with other people and get a viewpoint of what we’re going into,” Becker said. “It will give me comfort knowing that they’re doing it and being successful and they can help me.”

For students like Chisum, the ability to network has opened an opportunity for a summer internship. She believes all students should have that same chance.

“Talking to somebody could lead you to more opportunities and open more doors that could help you get to the career that you want,” she said.
